Paid Leave for U.S. (PL+US) cheers Schumer's budget resolution proposal

Earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced a budget resolution proposal and initial Senate Committee reconciliation instructions that include a historic proposal for paid family and medical leave.

Paid Leave for the U.S. (PL+US) Executive Director Molly Day released the following statement in response to today’s announcement:

"Today's budget resolution announcement and Senate Committee instructions make it clear that Congressional leadership is prioritizing the creation of a national paid family and medical leave program, moving us one step closer to becoming a country in which all working people know they won’t need to choose between their paycheck and caring for the people they love during life's most challenging moments.

"As we continue to work our way through the COVID-19 crisis, we have a historic opportunity to rebuild our country and economy so that it works for everyone, not just those at the top. Paid leave is critical to building back better -- it’s good for working families, businesses large and small, and for our country's long-term economic growth. We're committed to ensuring that the legislation that reaches President Biden’s desk in the months ahead includes a comprehensive national paid leave program." -- Molly Day, Executive Director, Paid Leave for the U.S. (PL+US)
